島を訪れる野鳥「ノビタキ」**

5月、焼尻島に遅い春がようやく訪れ、島じゅうが柔らかな緑に包まれるころ、ノビタキが姿を見せにやってきます。

小さな体で枝先にとまり、首をかしげたり、ふわりと飛び立ったり――
その可愛らしいしぐさについ時を忘れて見入ってしまいます。

「ヒタキ」という名の由来は、鳴き声が火打石をこすったときの
「チャッ、チャッ」という音に似ているからだといいます。
その名のとおり、澄んだ小さな音が春の野に心地よく響きます。

The Visiting Bird: the Stonechat**

In May, when late spring finally reaches Yakishiri Island and the land begins to glow with soft green,
the Stonechat arrives.

Perching lightly on the tip of a branch, tilting its head, fluttering off for a moment—
its charming movements make you forget the time as you watch.

The Japanese name hitaki is said to come from its call,
which resembles the crisp “chak, chak” sound of flint stones being struck together.
Just as the name suggests, that clear little sound rings pleasantly through the spring field.
